Bidet warranty comparison

Warranty length is the easiest spec on a bidet seat to compare and the least useful. One brand says three years, another says one, and the obvious conclusion is that the three-year seat is the safer buy. Then you read the actual documents and find that one of those three-year warranties pays 50% of the repair in its final year, another refuses to pay labor at any point, and the one-year warranty covers parts and labor in full and ships the unit to a service centre in Georgia.

The number of years tells you how long the company will take your call. What it costs you when you make that call is decided by four other clauses — whether labor is covered, who pays shipping in each direction, whether the seller you bought from was authorized, and whether the thing that broke is on the exclusion list. Every brand publishes all four. Almost nobody reads them before buying, because they're in the back of the manual or three clicks into a help centre.

This guide compares what TOTO, Brondell, Bio Bidet by Bemis, Kohler and LUXE Bidet actually promise, quoting their own warranty documents. It is a comparison of published terms, not of how any company behaves on a given Tuesday — service experiences vary, and a warranty document is the only part of the promise you can hold anyone to. Terms also change and vary by model, so treat every figure here as the thing to verify for the exact model number you're about to buy.

The published lengths, side by side

TOTO warrants its WASHLET products for one year from date of purchase, with an exception: the S7 and S7A carry a two-year limited warranty for residential use and one year for commercial installations. Brondell runs a tiered three-year warranty on its main Swash seats — the S1000, S1400, CL2200, T22, T44, T66, LS1600 and LS1800 — and a one-year warranty on a long list of other models, including all open-box products. Bio Bidet by Bemis publishes four tiers: five years on the Discovery DLS and DLX, three years on seats including the BB-2000 and the Prodigy line, two years on a small group, and one year on the Slim series and most attachments. Kohler gives its smart toilets and electric bidet seats three years residential and one year commercial. LUXE Bidet's non-electric NEO attachments carry 18 months. So the honest ranking on paper is Bio Bidet's flagships first, then Kohler and Brondell, then TOTO — which is precisely the ranking that falls apart once you read the next four sections.

Labor is the clause that decides what a claim costs

Three of these brands say in writing that they will not charge you for labor. TOTO's warranty states it "will not charge for labor or parts in connection with warranty repairs or replacements." Bio Bidet uses almost identical wording and specifies 100% coverage of all parts and Bio Bidet labor for the length of your tier. Brondell says it will not charge for labor or parts "for the first full year from date of purchase." Kohler's electric bidet seat warranty goes the other way and says plainly that Kohler "is not responsible for removal, installation, labor charges, or other incidental or consequential costs." That is a three-year warranty on the part and nothing on the work. For a bidet seat this matters less than it would for a built-in fixture — most seats are a homeowner swap — but if a claim ends in a smart toilet being pulled and reset, the difference is real money and it is not hidden anywhere. It's in the second paragraph of the document.

Shipping is the cost nobody budgets for

An electric bidet seat weighs enough that freight is not a rounding error, and almost every brand here pushes at least part of it onto you. TOTO's warranty is explicit: to get service you "must take the product or deliver it prepaid to a TOTO service facility" with proof of purchase and a letter describing the problem, and TOTO is not responsible for the cost of removal, return or reinstallation. It does add a useful escape hatch — if the product can't reasonably be returned, written notice plus proof of purchase counts as delivery, and TOTO may repair on site or pay to transport the unit. Bio Bidet likewise disclaims removal, return and reinstallation costs and requires an RMA number before anything ships. Brondell is the outlier in the good direction: its first-year coverage explicitly includes contiguous U.S. shipping costs. That is a genuine, itemised benefit, and it is also exactly what disappears in years two and three.

Brondell's tiered years are not three full years

This is the single most misread warranty in the category, and Brondell states it clearly enough that nobody should be surprised. Its Limited 3-Year Tiered Warranty covers 100% of parts, labor and contiguous U.S. shipping in year one; 75% of part and labor costs in year two; and 50% of part and labor costs in year three. So a failure at month 30 is a repair you co-pay half of, and the shipping benefit is gone. That is still meaningfully better than no coverage, and it is not a trick — but "three-year warranty" and "three years of full coverage" are different products, and the shelf tag says the first while the document says the second. Brondell does offer full three-year coverage on its integrated bidet toilets, the Sutro IBT-1000 and Coit KBT-900, at 100% of parts and labor excluding consumable filters — which shows the tiering is a deliberate choice for the seats, not a house style.

The authorized-dealer clause voids more warranties than misuse does

Bio Bidet states that it honours warranties and performs service "only on products purchased from an authorized Bio Bidet dealer," only with a receipt or proof of purchase, and that a warranty is not valid if the product came from an unauthorized dealer or if the factory serial number has been removed, defaced or altered. It warns directly that some sites claim to be authorized resellers and are not. Kohler's electric seat warranty says the coverage applies only to products bought from Kohler or a Kohler-authorized seller and that it "reserves the right to reject warranty claims for products purchased from unauthorized sellers, including unauthorized internet sites." TOTO's is geographic rather than dealer-based — the warranty applies to product purchased and installed in the USA and Canada. The practical consequence is uncomfortable: a marketplace listing that undercuts everyone by a wide margin may be selling you a seat with no warranty at all, and you will not discover that until you need it. Kohler's customer line will confirm whether a particular seller is authorized before you buy, which takes one phone call.

Registration: required by one brand, explicitly optional at another

These two positions sit at opposite ends and both are stated in writing. Brondell's warranty FAQ answers "Do I need to register my product to activate the warranty?" with yes, and asks you to contact support with a receipt, invoice or Brondell.com order number. TOTO says the opposite in its warranty text: proof of purchase is required, registration is encouraged to create a record of ownership, but "product registration is completely voluntary and failure to register will not diminish your limited warranty rights." TOTO also notes its S7/S7A extension applies automatically with no additional registration for existing owners. LUXE Bidet uses registration as a carrot instead of a gate — products are automatically covered for the default period, and registering a product carrying a LUXE ID extends the warranty by six months. The rule that survives all three: keep the receipt regardless, because every brand here requires proof of purchase, and register anyway when it takes two minutes and can only help.

The exclusions that catch ordinary bathrooms

Warranty exclusions are usually boilerplate about floods and abuse. The bidet ones are not — several describe conditions that exist in normal homes. TOTO excludes damage from sediments or foreign matter in a water system and from "the quality of water in the region where the product is used," which is hard water written formally, and it excludes installations where water pressure exceeds local codes, noting its model codes allow a maximum of 80 PSI. It also excludes electrical surges and specifically failure to use the factory cord and plug, a loose or faulty outlet, or anything other than a 120V 60Hz GFI socket. Brondell and Bio Bidet both exclude sediments and foreign matter in the water supply, and Brondell adds electrical surges, outages and lightning. If your house has hard water, high line pressure or an old receptacle behind the toilet, those are your three most likely failures and all three sit on the exclusion list — which is an argument for a pressure gauge and an inline filter, not for skipping the seat.

Cleaning products, and the label you must not break

Two exclusions get people who thought they were being careful. Chlorine is the first. TOTO prints a warning that it is not responsible for failure or damage caused by chloramines in public water treatment or by cleaners containing chlorine, and notes that high-concentrate chlorine products can seriously damage fittings and cause leaks. Brondell excludes damage caused by chlorine or chlorine-related products by name. Kohler simply says improper care and cleaning will void the warranty. TOTO also excludes normal wear from bleach, alkali and acid cleaners, dry powder or abrasive cleaners, and metal or nylon scrubbers. The second is physical: TOTO's warranty is void if the danger label placed over the seams on the back of the top unit is broken or not intact. That is the seal that a curious owner or an over-eager handyman breaks while trying to get inside a unit that has stopped heating. Troubleshoot from the outside, and let the service centre open it.

Tips & warnings

• Buy the model number, not the brand. Every warranty here varies by model — Brondell's tiered three years covers a specific list of Swash models and a different list gets one year, and Bio Bidet spans five years to one across its own catalogue. Look up your exact model before you assume the headline number applies.
• Confirm the seller is authorized before you check out, not after. Bio Bidet and Kohler both make authorized purchase a condition of coverage, and Kohler's customer line will tell you whether a specific seller qualifies.
• Keep the receipt somewhere you'll find it in year three. TOTO, Brondell, Bio Bidet and Kohler all require proof of purchase for a claim, and a marketplace order history is easier to lose than you'd think.
• Price the whole claim, not the part. Add labor and freight to the picture: Kohler excludes labor outright, TOTO wants the unit delivered prepaid to a service facility, and Brondell's shipping benefit runs out after year one.
• Fix the two things the warranty won't cover. Hard water and pressure over the manufacturer's limit are excluded by name, and both are cheap to address — a gauge, a pressure-reducing valve if you need one, and regular nozzle cleaning do more for a seat's life than a longer warranty does.
• Don't open the unit. TOTO voids coverage if the danger label over the seams is broken, and improper repair is an exclusion at Brondell and Bio Bidet too. Out-of-warranty is a better time to experiment — Brondell says it will still help with parts or a Service Center repair after coverage ends.
